Welcome again to this blog in which we talk about Greek’s myth. I’ve been talking about Cronus, the father of Zeus, hades, Poseidon and many other gods, and also Zeus, who is the actual god in charge of everything. Now, in this post, I will talk about Poseidon. Brief information, Poseidon is the god of the sea, and is characterize by his trident.
Poseidon is the god of sea and water generally. He was the son of Cronus and Rhea, so he was one of the children who Cronus ate. He is also brother of Zeus, the actual chief god and Hades, god of the underworld. “When the three brothers deposed their father, the kingdom of the sea fell by lot to Poseidon.”(EncyclopediaBritannica2011). His best weapon was the trident. It can also be represented as a “long handled fish spear”. (EncyclopediaBritannica2011)
“Poseidon was also the god of earthquake, and many of his oldest places of worship in Greece were inland” (EncyclopediaBritannica2011). This information may imply that Poseidon has powers that affect the earth and the earthquakes that it may be instead tsunamis.
“He was, in addition, closely associated with horses. He was the father of the winged horse Pegasus by the winged monster Medusa. Most scholars agree that Poseidon was brought to Greece as the god of the earliest Hellenes, who also introduced the first horses to the country." (Encyclopedia Britannica2011)
It seems that Poseidon also has a greedy personality, according to Skyler Raine in his online article, which he said, "Poseidon is depicted as one greedy, vengeful deity who used his powers to inflict damage on his enemies."(Raine2009).
Well, this information expresses basic information about Poseidon, also a curios fact about him.
I think that Poseidon is a terrific god and a very good representation of a good brother. There is a movie that talks about this kind of information, for example, the Greek gods, the Olympus and demigods. This movie is called “Percy Jackson and the lighting thief”, I watched it movie 3 times and I suggest you to watch this movie.
I’ll post next week information of a god, maybe Hades, brother of Zeus and Poseidon.

ResponderEliminarNice blog! I have always liked Greek mythology since I was a kid. When I went to primary school they taught me some stuff of Greek culture; but I didn’t like it so much. The day that I started to be interested in the Greek mythology was when a friend of my father, who is like my uncle, gave me as a present for my birthday (I don’t remember which one) a computer game called Age of Mythology.
ResponderEliminarI liked so much that game! The game consists in choosing a civilization and one god; they can be Egyptians with the gods Ra and Isis; Nordics with the gods Loki and Thor; Atlantics with the gods Uranus, Gea and Cronos; and Greeks with the gods Poseidon, Zeus and Ares. The objective of the game was to conquer all the civilizations that are in the game, by destroying them.
Poseidon the god of sea is a god that I don’t liked so much, because my brother always choose him when we played versus each other. Well, so you now know why I like Greek mythology and what did inspire me to know more about it. I hope you continue writing this blog, it’s a good one because you describe each of the Greek gods and provide different information about them.
Great blog, I have always found, the greek myhtology very intersting, and Poseidon is one of my favorite characters of the greek mythology, because the thing that I like about him, is that he can control an element of the earth that is, the water and also another thing that I like is that he one of the sons of Cronos.
ResponderEliminarCronos is the father of their brothers that are are Zeus, the thing that I like about Zeus is that he can control the electricity in order to make thunder and also he can provoke the rain with his powers, and the other son of Cronos, that is also brother from Poseidon is Ades and the thing that I like about Ades is that he can control the element of the earth that is the fire and this element is my favorite of all, so in a way the best of the three because of the power that they have I could say that my favorite is Ades because his power involves the control of fire.
So I hope Alan that you keep posting, other interesting themes about the greek mythology because I think that this is a great subject that can be liked by everyone, so keep posting other interesting themes because there is no doubt that the people will read them.
See you Alan. Great Blog.
I also known about Poseidon the God of the seas I see a movie that was Precy Jakson, and the movie said a couple of things about Poseidon, also in some scene of Sponge Bob Square Pants in and make Poseidon like Big person or fish. I think that in the center of Monterrey are a statue of Poseidon and his trident with horses and other persons. I don’t know why he is in the statue but I can investigate about it. I’m anxious about your next post.
ResponderEliminarYour post of the week was incredible and I hope that you continue posting things like this.
Is great to learn more about the Greek gods. Now that you are talking of Poseidon, the first thing that came out to my head was the movie, Poseidon, where a ship gets drowned by a huge wave, and it is related, that the angry of Poseidon caused the huge wave. Poseidon name sounds crazy, it's like something great and induces fear, like you are saying he might bye greedy and everything, but to have the power to make tsunamis and earthquakes is something to be feared about. One of those things I didn't knew was that he was able to be on the earth, because he was known as the god that makes earthquakes, I always thought he was just on the ocean. What I don't understand, maybe I should research more is why do they disposed of their father and then separated to different sides of the world?, maybe because they weren't able to share or something like that, but I guess not everything is true, I really don't believe in these kind of things, but it is nice to learn some Greek history.
ResponderEliminarKeep on posting this kind of blogs and I guess I'll keep checking them out, but be sure to make it more interesting, it is an advice. See you later.
